Description

Fertility idole from Tell Halaf region in Anatolia, dating back from the 5th millenium B.C.

This kind of mother goddesses is always depicted in a seating stance with hands on her knees or bearing her breasts.

Most of thse figurines feature big terracotta breasts, whereas our specimen depicts these attributes with red brownish pigments. A lot scarcer these types are much more sought. These pigments are also used to delimit arms  and legs jointures and eyes , as well as to figure jewelery (necklace…).

Some surface light pits and cracks. Pigments are still present. The end of the left hand is broken on a minimal part. This specimen is in a very good general condition regarding its age and its underlying fragility.
