Description
This green jasper scraper comes from the Gafsa region in Tunisia and is typical of the beginning of the Capsian culture, dating between 6500 and 7500 B.C.
This is the core region of the further expansion to the mediterranean area to Algeria. Both side are about perfectly flat with one figuring a superb patina with red to golden reflects. Retouches show a high lithic mastering level and help this scraper to get sharp edge with minimal work. We can distinguish 2 phases. The first one, with bigger retouches to provide the general shape, and the second to get the sharpeness of the scraper.
Condition
Awesome millenial patina. No lack of matter. Preservation close to mint state.
Provenance
Old French private collection
