Description
Byzantine (syro-palestinian) oil lamp made of terracotta and showing a cross on the above and of long nozzled with canal type. all the perimeter of this cross is striated with chevrons. The central hole is large (typical of syro-paletinian lamps during the byzantine era) in order to pour the oil and placed in the center of the cross. To solars patterns are present at the end of each branch. The upper part of the handle is chipped as well as some little parts on the back of the lamp. Apart from these, the lamp is till in a very good shape. Some remaining wax in the lamp, lead to think that it had been converted into a candle holder later on.
