Description

Triangular stamp seal in hematite with rounded angles of Akkadian type dating back to the end of the 3rd millenium B.C. (ca. 2100 – 2500 B.C.) and excavated in Mesopotamia. The inner face depicts a stag or horse with wings (this may be the ancestor of Pegasus) inscribed within a triangle. The outer face shows a bulb, which is horizontally pierced to serve as an attachment, and is designed with several striations arranged perpendicular to each others.

Some earth encrustation remains all over the seal, giving it a smooth grey to brownish patina in some areas. A little part is broken in front of the animal’s head.
