Description

Scythian dagger excavated in the Caucasian area and dating from 6th to 7th century B.C.

This weapon is scarce since it has only one cutting edge and not two sides as most dagger have.

The 80 mm long hilt ends with an half moon shape with rolled terminals. The guard hasn’t exactly an heart’s shape but isn’t that far either and shows two kind of eyes that are both 56 mm long. The 147 mm blade, slightly curved, only has one cutting edge, the other side being more than 4 mm thick.

This dagger was mechanically cleaned to remove main corrosion’s points. Moreover it has been treated with oil and wax in order to inhibit as far as possible this kind of alteration. The tip of the blade was heavily corroded and therefore has been a bit damaged and remains fragile even if it has been stabilized. This fagger is still in a good state of preservation showing few shocks.
