Description
This ceramic idole comes from continental Greece and dates back to the 13th century B.C., which is the Mycenaean period (Late Helladic IIIb period).
It is a “Psi” idole, regarding its general shape with raising arms. Indeed, it looks like this letter from the greek alphabet. We can distinguihed two little breasts as well as a headdress with the concave upper part.
This figurine, very typical of the Mycenaean culture, posess numerous red / brownish pigments, used to decorate it and figurate thinner traits: dress, face’s details, hairs and headdress. A braid lie down on its back.
This figurine is a very good specimen of such a kind of idole with lots of remaining pigments, beautiful patina and earth encrustation, despite light lacks of matter and a few minor chips. This is the best masterpiece we have seen in our gallery so far.
