Description

Biface are one of the oldest working tool of old past Prehistory. It appears for the first time during the lower Paleolithic  in East Africa and widespread progressively to Europe and Asia until the end of this period. It is common piece of the Acheulean period, where it is still a bit rough and then modify a bit its shape  during the upper PAleolithic (Mousterian era). It is still present during the mesolithic and neolithic and is often, during this last period, a first step to make a polish axe.

Our specimen is typical of those from the Sahara (desert patina, quartzite) has been made in the north of Malia and dates back between 600k and 1000k years B.C., thus having been made by our far ancestor: the homo erectus.

This very appealing example shows a brown to yellow color and is coated with a sandy patina that is typical of this region.
