Description

Bronze bent-foot molded fibula dating back from the 6th century A.D. After having designed bent-foot fibulae and seen the weakness of the coils over the time, craftmen decided to cast molded fibula of this type that are more robust.

This nickname of bent-foot is due to the fact that there is a link between the down part of the catch plate and the upper part where it is coiled. Even if it is not totally the case with molded specimen, it is still called this way centuries after the earlier form has been stopped. Notice that some little bronze rings stop the hinge at its extremities so that it is always well in place.

Genceva tells us that these fibulae dates from the 6th and even early 7th century A.D.

Very good state of preservation. Original pin and spring. All functionnal.

The pin has been restored. The fibula is still functionnal.
