Description
Copper sickle of continental Europe type and dating back from the mid 2nd millenium B.C. Those replaced older stone one’s during the chalcolithic, at least on areas close to the copper’s road. Others (i.e. Scandinavia) have continued to use stone sickle for a long time before switching to bronze alternatives due to the lack of material.
Our specimen get a crusty olive patina, designed with a cutting edge (opposite to the tongue) and the other thicker, non sharp but showingsigns of wears. This prooves that these sickles were used as a swiss knife, for multiple purposes (likely to harvest grains). The cutting edge of our tool is straight, typical of old copper age specimens. Note that the last third of the opposite side features a cutting edge that has been used.
Our sickle shows an important use, through signs of wear, thus surely get a high copper grade, making it softer than later bronze specimens (that incorporate tin and arsenic).
