Description

Ceremonial bronze mace head found in Bactria-Margiania (BMAC) and dating back from the 2nd millenium B.C.

Typical of this culture, it is composed of four claws (comrising one part missing and a crack to another) at the beginning of the socket used to insert a shaft. The upper part looks like a drop of water which would be 90° bent at its top. An attachment internally join each side of the macehead just above the claws.

It is very likely that this had been a mark of ritualized distinction, such as it has been case with Elamites elites. Besides, we today know that these rituals were followed in Luristan and afterwards in Bactria during the 2nd millenium B.C.

Gorgeous green crusty patina with some earth encrustations.
