Description

This black stone idol comes from the Sesklo region, nowadays Greece, and dates approximately to the 5th – 6th millennium B.C. It was found with the other idol, with which it shares most of the characteristics.
This figure is ultra schematic and therefore in pure symbolism. This whole idol has been polished for a long time to form the various details (arms, pubis, head, breasts, legs). It was probably a very precious idol, according to the noble material used (potentially semi-precious) and the polishing time it may have required. Despite a very small stature, the work is remarkable in detail.

Condition

Very nice polish. Very nice patina. Slight erosion.

Provenance

Old French Assier private collection (collected in the first half of the 20th century).
